About

Hemorrhoids also called piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in your anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoids may result from straining during bowel movements or from the increased pressure on these veins during pregnancy. Hemorrhoids may be located inside the anus (internal Hemorrhoids), or may develop under the skin around the anus (external hemorrhoids)Piles.

Cause

Exact cause of piles or haemorrhoids is unknown. It is also said that erect posture of mankind is responsible for piles increase pressure in lower abdomen he following factors can increase pressure within the lower rectum and hence may increase the risk of developing haemorrhoids: Straining to have a bowel movement Sitting for long periods of time, especially on the toilet Chronic (long lasting) constipation or diarrhoea Pregnancy Low-fibre diet Family history of haemorrhoids. Longstanding fissure in ano leads to haemorrhoids or piles.

Symptoms

  • Painless bleeding while passing stools
  • Feeling a lump outside the anus
  • Pruritus ani or itching around the anus
  • Faecal soiling of undergarments
  • If a blood clot forms in the haemorrhoid it leads to a severely painful swelling which worsens with bowel movement and sitting.

Treatment

There are various treatments that are available for internal hemorrhoidal disease. It is not necessary for all people who suffer from piles to go for surgery.

Non Surgical Treatments for Treating piles:

Laser Treatment for Piles: Laser Hemorrhoidoplasty (LHP) is basically an approach that is used for treating advanced haemorrhoids under local or general anaesthesia. The laser energy is carefully inserted centrally into the hemorrhoidal node. With the controlled emission of laser energy, applied submucosally, helps the hemorrhoidal mass to shrink generally. Along with that, fibrotic reconstruction generally creates new connective tissue ensuring the mucosa to the underlying tissue. This also helps to prevent the occurrence or reoccurrence of a prolapsed. Unlike in other procedures, there is no need for foreign materials to be inserted. And LHP is not associated with any of the risks of stenosis. After the surgery, the healing is also excellent as there are no stitches like in the conventional surgeries

Rubber band litigation: This is performed in the hospital and is done without sedation. The rubber band litigation actually involved by placing rubber bands at the base of internal haemorrhoid so that the blood supply is cut off so that it is allowed to fall off. Traditional hemorrhoidectomy or hemorrhoidectomy is a surgery where the internal or external haemorrhoids that are severe or extensive are removed. Surgical hemorrhoidectomy is considered to be the most effective treatment for haemorrhoids. There are incisions made in the tissue around the haemorrhoids and swollen vein inside the haemorrhoid is generally tied off so that bleeding is prevented and the haemorrhoid is generally removed. This surgery is generally done under spinal anaesthesia where either sutures or staples are used. After the surgery, there would be some pain at the operated site. The healing of the operated wound takes around 6 to 8 weeks.
